Dr. Kazuko Hirai (Faculty of Social Sciences, Hitotsubashi University) and Dr. Toshimi Chazono (Kyoto University Asian Studies Unit) will report on the institutional operation of wartime military brothels and the periodic venereal disease examinations enforced to women who had been selling sex (they were derogatory called as "Pan-Pan") to GIs during the US military occupation period in Japan.
